Music Video/Website - Intertextuality in my Products

 Music Video

Reference to The Beatles on the home screen.
0:25

Reference to various bands with the posters on the bedroom wall.
0.43

Reference to the band Massive Attack on the flashcard.
1:16

Reference to Micky Mouse on the child's shirt.
1:26

Reference to 'Before I Saw You' which transfers the meaning of a love story to the narrative.
1:36

Reference to the animated film 'Your Name' which follows a similar narrative to the one in the video. Of a boy who lives in an urban city falling in love with a girl from the rural country side. I replicated this via the love narrative of two girls, and the constant iconography of rural and urban areas. Seen in the shot here, and with the shots of the train and the shots of them walking towards the camera.

Website

The track list contains songs that reference several different artists - which is made more overt in my about page. In order (excluding 1.):

Her's, Beach Bunny, Hippo Campus, Alvvays, Declan McKenna, Paramore, Green Day, ABBA, Bonney M, Counting Crows, Madonna.

By referencing famous artists I hope to transfer the star and aspirational status of my those artists to my band.

The outfits of each individual band member are a reference to iconic outfits of certain famous artists transferring the aspirational status of those artists to mine.

From left to right:
Declan McKenna, Paramore, Green Day

These album covers make the above stated references more overt, and the posters to movies are referenced to make the artists seem more 'down to earth' and allows the audience to make more of a connection to them.

Intertextual reference to the Shrek franchise.
Poster in the 'Lightbox' is a reference to the movie poster for 'Call Me By Your Name'.

Website - About Page References

With each of these about pages I tried to make the costume intertextual references more explicit by posing the artist as my band members favourite artist. I also made a reference to their favourite movie to increase the amount of intertextuality and tried to link the movie to their interests/personality. I linked the mental health issue that they had to a narrative in the video to create the illusion of the artist presenting their values and ideologies in the video. This also subtly increases the digitally convergent nature of the two products.

Milly's outfit is inspired by Declan McKenna so decided to make that more explicit here. The film she likes is a recent one and is one my younger target audience will recognise. She references how her pet dog helped her with her anxiety which links to the narrative about the boy taking his god out on a walk.

Purnoor's outfit is based off Paramore so again made that more explicit. The movie she likes is a rom-com and reflects the bubbly persona I tried to construct and that is also reflected in the music video. Her mental health problem is separation anxiety, deriving from the Covid Pandemic which my younger target audience will have personally lived through and remember well. This links to the narrative about a lesbian couple meeting up for a date.

Evan's outfit is inspired by Green Day so once more made that explicit here. I decided to link his love of guitar playing to green day and to his favourite film, which presents the theme of family. Which helped him through his mental health issue which is reflected in the narrative about a housewife being cheered up by her two children.

Planning/Website - Merch Store Shots

 Mia:

Theo:

These shots are for the merch store on my website, I will edit on the Silver Lining logo onto the cloths to make the band more aspirational as they have lots of branded clothing that 'fans' would want to buy.

I decided to go for a colour scheme of, white, green and blue in the cloths as these are colours that appear a lot in my music video so this will add to the digitally convergent nature of the two products. To add to this even more the two models I have used also appear in my music video.

I also tried to get as many flower themed cloths that I could to add to the flower motif presented in the video.

Planning/Website - Band Shots

 Evan:

Milly:

Purnoor:

These shots of my band are going to be used on my website. I made sure to get all three of them to do the same 'type' of shot (e.g sitting down) so i can edit them together and it looks like a group photo. These will be used all over the pages of my website and add to the digitally convergent nature of the music video and website due to the outfits.

Close Ups: used for the 'album cover'.

Sit/Sit Flower: used at the bottom of the web page of them sitting on grass either with or without the flower.

Full Outfit: used for general shots around the web page and the best ones used in a selling outfit section for the charity.

Flower Lay: used to surround the embedded music video, in a triangle formation.
