Music Video/Website - Intertextuality in my Products

 Music Video

Reference to The Beatles on the home screen.
0:25

Reference to various bands with the posters on the bedroom wall.
0.43

Reference to the band Massive Attack on the flashcard.
1:16

Reference to Micky Mouse on the child's shirt.
1:26

Reference to 'Before I Saw You' which transfers the meaning of a love story to the narrative.
1:36

Reference to the animated film 'Your Name' which follows a similar narrative to the one in the video. Of a boy who lives in an urban city falling in love with a girl from the rural country side. I replicated this via the love narrative of two girls, and the constant iconography of rural and urban areas. Seen in the shot here, and with the shots of the train and the shots of them walking towards the camera.

Website

The track list contains songs that reference several different artists - which is made more overt in my about page. In order (excluding 1.):

Her's, Beach Bunny, Hippo Campus, Alvvays, Declan McKenna, Paramore, Green Day, ABBA, Bonney M, Counting Crows, Madonna.

By referencing famous artists I hope to transfer the star and aspirational status of my those artists to my band.

The outfits of each individual band member are a reference to iconic outfits of certain famous artists transferring the aspirational status of those artists to mine.

From left to right:
Declan McKenna, Paramore, Green Day

These album covers make the above stated references more overt, and the posters to movies are referenced to make the artists seem more 'down to earth' and allows the audience to make more of a connection to them.

Intertextual reference to the Shrek franchise.
Poster in the 'Lightbox' is a reference to the movie poster for 'Call Me By Your Name'.

Music Video - Development Over Time (Drafts)

(All before 20th October international deadline)

DRAFT 1: Used to put down my master shots and lip synced the shot, and started to put down and establish some of my narratives whilst adding in performance shots throughout. Needed to cut out lots of the shots where the camera moved and so on.

DRAFT 2: Added in all of my 7 planned narratives to the start of the video as well as a solid performance shot. The rest of the video I was unsure on as I didn't know what I wanted to do with the narratives, still needed to tidy up shaky shots.

DRAFT 3: First draft where I had the entire song full of shots. I decided to cut the old lady narrative as I didn't have enough shots to develop the planned narrative fully and was thus able to further develop other narratives and add in other performance shots. This draft was also after I had shot more video with my main performer meaning I had a larger variety of performance shots to use.

DRAFT 4: Cut the ED narrative as felt it was too insensitive, this allowed me to develop the other narratives more and hopefully make them clearer.
DRAFT 5: Changed around some of the performance shaky shots and added an extra bit of intertextuality with the book. Added in end card with butterfly and bee to make video come full circle.

DRAFT 6: Made sure all the shots were as steady as possibly and all were edited to the beat of the music.

DRAFT 7: Added QR code in end card to make the two products more digitally convergent.

DRAFT 8 (N0V): Changed some of the swing shots as the metal looked a bit too industrial and went against the 'flowery' feel of my brand. Also added a performance shot near the end that would be more digitally convergent to photos on my 'About' page.

Music Video - First Draft Peer Response

My first draft with editing the footage for my music video, I did not include all of the narratives, and I don't plan to use the LED light shots at the end, they are only there as a place holder. This is a very rough first draft.

Note: there is a bit of just black at the end due to not having enough master shot, but this will be filled in with narrative shots later on.

I am aware that the master track has moments when the camera moves or isn't steady so I have watched the video and noted areas that need to be edited over with footage of narratives.
